I have been doing this a long time. Too long by some standards. I've used most computers from the 8 bit era, my favorite being the Apple //c that I ran a BBS on for years. After that it was a love afair with Amiga before getting into PC clones. I made it through college with various Windows and DOS applications (Borland C anyone?) before discovering Linux and deciding that was my future. SLS, Slackware, and then Red Hat. I moved from user services to Systems Administration and never looked back. A few years in Higher Ed, and a few at an ISP, I am back in Higher Ed.
